If you’ve got a nice sized backyard and love entertaining and lounging around in it, then chances are you’ve run across one of the drawbacks of such a set-up: the lawn maintenance!
Let’s face it. Most of us love the benefits of a backyard, but we hate having to constantly do the mowing, hedge clipping, and weeding that goes hand-in-hand with it (http://blog.homedepot.com/low-maintenance-backyard-design-ideas/).
So how can you make a backyard that is light on maintenance and heavy on fun?
Try out a backyard makeover. You can use artificial grass to cut your backyard maintenance in half. (It’s not just for sports fields anymore!)
Extend the size of your patio or deck. Most of us have the standard sized patio you can barely fit a table on, much less do any serious entertaining. Ideally, you should have enough room to include a table with several chairs for guests, plus room for a nice size grill. The good news is that the deck or patio option won’t take as much maintenance as the grass or garden options. All you’ll need to do is stain or seal the deck once a year to maintain it.
Include a fire pit and a covered entertaining area complete with an outdoor ceiling fan. This gives versatility as well as low-maintenance and ability to enjoy the outdoors in winter and summer without having to worry about the extremes of nature.
